NetSQL Azman Import Error

May 31, 2010 at 12:13 PM

I think I previously posted this issue in the wrong area and I apologize. I want to "clone" an application's groups/items. I thought I should be able to export them from Applcation A and then import them into Application B.

The export from A seems to work fine. But when I attempt to import into B, I cannot get past the "The XML file is not valid or wrong import position" error.

Am I incorrect in thinking this is possible? The file's header lines are below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

I think I have cracked the code to clone a set of Groups/Items. Suppose you want to clone the existing Groups/Items in a current application (eg. MyApplicationCurrent) for use in another appliction (eg MyApplicationNew):

1. Select the Application you wish to export (eg MyAppplicationOld). Right click the mouse and select Export Application. This will produce an XML file containing all of the application groups and items.

2. Open the XML file in an editor. Change the following from

<Application Name="MyAppplicationOld" Description="some desription">

<Application Name="MyApplicationCurrent" Description="some desription">

then save the changes.

3. Right click on the Store and select Import Store Groups and Applications.

4. Pick the xml file created in step 1 and your items will be imported into MyApplicationCurrent.

Hope this helps someone,

This helps but I want to go one step further.

I have two applications and now I want to combine them to one new application. I can clone the first one, but how can I add all the items from the second application to the new application? Any ideas?

I think the best thing is to export both applications to an XML file and then edit it by moving the children of the second application under the first one.

Then delete the two applications from the store and import back all again.
