Linux, Mono and MySQL

Andrea,

Have you considered porting the code to work on a Linux platform using MySQL as a database? I have not used LINQ yet to know if it works with a database level provider like the other DotNet database connections. There is a MySql provider available for DotNet. MySQL does support stored procedures but I am not sure about table functions. And if you aren't doing any major gui stuff, mono will run most DotNet code without any changes.

Just a thought. We are developing our product to be cross platform and are using NetSQLAzMan and it would be nice if we could go all Linux.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Mono 1.2 should be support also LINQ.

The problem is that NetSqlAzMan use several SQL Server specific function to access Active Directory …. While MySql … cannot.

Hi,

We would really love to use NetSqlAzMan with a .NET middleware project, but we use MySQL.  The prior post seems to be before the DB Users feature was added, which is what we would use (we have no use for AD integration).  Any thoughts on the changes required to add MySQL support, excluding the AD integration which was the previously identified road block?

I haven't looked at the sources, but might it be primarily a matter of creating a MySQL "port" of some lowest-level DB class(es) using the MySQL .NET Connector?

Thank you for any comments/suggestions you may have.  We may be looking into this.

Regards,

Ryan

Hello,

is not a simple thing.

The layer of data storage of NetSqlAzMan was written using Linq2SQL then the coupling is quite strong.

Until today no one has tried it, but if you want you can be the first J to get the source code and try to make this mod.

Andrea.
